First release — United Kingdom, launching soon

The first release is a small founders run, shipping within the United Kingdom. Reserving costs nothing, commits you to nothing, and gives you first access and founders pricing. Reserving from elsewhere tells us where to go next.

We ship the founders run in the UK first. Telling us where you are shapes where we go next.

The thinking

An old object, questioned again.

In a sauna, the air at head height is the hottest part of the room. For centuries, bathers across Northern and Eastern Europe wore a simple wool felt hat to insulate the head, protect the hair and stay in the heat long enough for it to do its work.

It is a solved problem. What has not been solved is how most of them are made today: bleached and chemically treated fibre, synthetic blends, opaque supply chains and shapes that lose their form after a season.

We started with the friction rather than the object. Traceable natural wool, felted with nothing more than water, heat and pressure. Shaped by hand by makers who have refined the craft over generations. Detailed so it holds its form, dries cleanly and gets better with use.

Heat — a ritual of release

An object on the body, for the ritual of Heat.

The Heritage Sauna Hat is the first object TEJ has designed for the ritual of Heat. Worn on the body, it lets warmth feel longer and calmer, so the body can release more deeply.

Care

Made to be kept.

  • Air dry flat after every session, away from direct heat.
  • Rinse in cool water by hand when needed. No detergent, no machine.
  • Reshape while damp — the felt will hold the form you give it.
  • Expect it to soften and develop character. That is the material working.

Questions

Do sauna hats work, and why wear one?

Yes. Heat rises, so the air at head height is the hottest part of the room. A wool felt hat insulates the head and slows that heat reaching the scalp, which keeps the head cooler than the rest of the body. In practice that means less light-headedness, less dryness in the hair and scalp, and the ability to stay in the room long enough for the heat to do its work.

Three reasons: comfort, protection and time. It makes high heat feel calmer, it shields hair and scalp from drying out, and it lets you complete a full session rather than cutting it short. In Finnish and Baltic sauna culture the hat is not an accessory — it is standard equipment.

The first release is a small founders run, produced once the final prototype passes real sauna testing. Reserve below and you will be offered one before it is listed publicly.

Wool felt is a natural insulator. It slows the transfer of heat to the head and scalp, so the body can stay in the room longer and more comfortably, while absorbing moisture without feeling wet.

No. No synthetic blends, no internal linings, no chemical softeners or bleach washes. The fibre is cleaned and felted using water, heat and pressure.

Founders pricing is being finalised with our makers. Reserving costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
